Have you experienced Separation Anxiety?
Puppies go through separation anxiety, resulting in destructive behavior. De-fluffed pillows, torn up socks, shredded paper, mauled family toys… anything bearing the master’s scent is fair game to a puppy gone rogue. Leave them alone for an extended period of time and who knows what you’ll walk back into.
As a parent, you may experience relational separation anxiety when your little one goes off to school for the first time or your oldest one heads off to college. Mood swings, disrupting sleep patterns, and unbalanced eating habits are signs of an unhappy heart.
Then there’s Spiritual Separation Anxiety.
By the thousands, people are walking away from the influence of the One True God. It’s an outbreak of pandemic proportions.
Heavy sadness, prolonged indifference, isolation, and hopelessness occurs, resulting in destructive behavior. Similar to a puppy, we seek out reminders of our Master and try to destroy them.
Yet, here’s something about puppies, they seek out their master’s scent, not to destroy “it,” but to find “him.” They feel safe around their master, so they’ll do anything to seek him out. Their destructive behavior… yeah, it comes with being a puppy.
Unlike pups, we have self-awareness and the choice to stay with or leave our Master.
Praise God, that no matter our choices, we can never be separated from His love.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.(Romans 8:38-39 NIV)
Poor choices can’t separate us.
Bad attitudes can’t separate us.
Stupid actions can’t separate us.
Death can’t separate us.
The grave can’t separate us.
NOTHING can separate us from the everlasting love of God.
