Gently Brush Wrath Away
Have you ever said, “Ugh! Why did I say that?”
It hurts us… when our words hurt others.
We can’t retrieve the pain, confusion or suffering our negative words inflict on others, though we desperately want to.
I’ve been on both sides of wrath.
I’ve witnessed the expressions-of-recoil when my harsh words torn into my spouse. His hurt reaction shocked me into considering my words at a deeper level.
I also remember as a child, cowering as the tone of my mom’s voice pierced my heart. Hmm, I’m well beyond the age of 50 and yet I still cringe in the remembering.
Instead, let us choose to refrain from speaking out in anger at all.
Let us breathe in deep, the calmness of the Holy Spirit in every situation.
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
Proverbs 15:1 NIV
Be blessed today in the knowing that God loves you, imperfections and all. But choose this day to turn towards His Truth and away from the actions that cause your heart and the hearts of others to hurt.
O LORD, let our words, like a gentle breeze caressing a delicate flower, simply be… of love, peace, and kindness. Open our hearts to embrace Your words and to use them as our own. To God be the glory.
