People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.”
Mother Teresa’s words are indeed a challenge for the everyday woman. We strive to live a legacy worthy life, yet often find ourselves hanging on by a thin thread of I-can-do-this.
Our heavenly Father gave us the template to living a legacy-worthy life in relationships, and it begins and ends with LOVE.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV
Here are three to do’s concerning love and relationships that I found in this passage…
Do it More – “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud…
Embrace that, others are not like you… and it’s okay.
When retaliation seems appropriate… choose love and a gentle touch instead.
Claim a humble spirit and be happy with your circumstances.
Remember … if you’re all that and a bag of chips, others will proclaim it, you won’t have to – give God the glory in your life.
Do it Less – “…It (love) does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth…
Think before speaking and use words to lift up… not push down.
Repeat as needed –‘Less of me… more of Thee.’
Never choose Anger in haste… step back and respond instead of react.
Seek forgiveness… give forgiveness
Believe that evil binds us… while the truth sets us free
Do it Daily – “…It (love) always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Set healthy boundaries – protect yourself and those you love and inspect what you expect!
Trust anyway… knowing that others will fail your expectations and that you will fail theirs.
Never give up on Hope… walk it out in faith – be in the Word daily to increase your faith.
Quitting is not an option… Failure only occurs when we stop getting back up… I pray you will continue to get back up.
I’d love to hear your thoughts… what steps do you take to live legacy-worthy in your relationships?
Hugs in Him… Linda
